September 2016 : St Andrews DLitt

St Andrews DLitt
Institution : The University of St Andrews

Award : Doctor of Letters (DLitt)

Description : Saffron silk, fully lined with ermine.

Shape : St Andrews [f10]

Hoods were re-introduced at St Andrews in the 1860s. The doctors' hoods are made in faculty colour, and lined with white satin. However, the original specification permitted the use of an ermine lining, and this still holds for recipients honoris causa. This hood was commissioned in 2013 by Colin Fleming, FBS, from the Rev'd Kenneth Crawford, FBS.
