August 2017 : Lambeth STh

Lambeth STh
Institution : Lambeth Palace

Award : Scholar in Theology (STh)

Description : Black, the lining divided horizontally white over light blue.

Shape : Cambridge [f1]

This diploma (Scholar in Theology) was instituted in 1905 as a pass-degree level award in theology for female teachers, but was later opened to men as well. It was available by examination, or for suitably qualified candidates, by dissertation. The blue and white of hood lining are taken from the arms of the See of Canterbury. The horizontal split is unique among British hoods. The diploma was withdrawn in 2009.
